B. tournefortii invading Utah’s National Parks

Brassica tournefortii, a.k.a. Sahara mustard, as begun to invade Utah's national parks, as well as sweeping into Pastor land and desert scapes outside of the parks in southern Utah

Arches

MAY 16, 2019 Arches National Monument.

I also saw it sweeping over a horse pastures in Moab on the way to the entrance. There are some plants but not huge numbers. I saw it only near roads and parking lots. Which is typical, larger plants dry into tumble weeds which blow along roads and get stuck on cars.

– Unless it’s pulled out of Arches in the next two weeks, it will overrun the wildflowers, possibly even cactus. It will set seed starting in two weeks. I brought it Into the ranger station and I called Moab City about the pasture –it will over run the fields  –toxic to everything–including horses and cattle, even goats!

Also in Zion , La Vertin, Kolob, Capitol Reef

A couple days later I saw in Zion and surrounding areas, so it’s spreading though Utah. It’s in and around every Ranger station and on busy trails, park entrances had along roads throughout Utah.
